Program Description

The Doctor of Marriage and Family Therapy (DMFT) program is a 57-unit professional doctorate program designed for students with a master’s degree in MFT seeking to advance their clinical expertise, develop in supervision and consultation skills, and work in leadership positions within the profession as well as organizations. The program emphasizes clinical practice, advanced systemic assessment, interventions, scholarship, applied research, and supervision skills.

The DMFT complements existing master’s-level training in MFT by offering a specialized practice doctorate that emphasizes applied clinical practice, supervision and consultation, leadership, and innovation. Drawing upon the practitioner-scholar model, graduates will learn how to apply theory and research in MFT to clinical practice at the doctoral level.
